Do you know what you want? Unless you know what you want, it will be difficult to get it.

Have you got any goals mapped out for each area of your life? To get the process started, think about the most important areas of your life: career, relationships, social activities, personal achievements, finances and other possessions.

What you next want to do is take some sheets of paper – one for each of the areas mentioned above  – and brainstorm over each for at least 3 minutes. Then writ down what you would like to have, achieve, and do in each area.

Remember, it’s not important about how big or small your goals may seem. This is your life, you can decide what is important to you or not.

So, before you start jotting down all your goals, I want you to question yourself in every aspect possible. Leave no stone unturned, explore every nook and corner of your conscience and those deep dark realms of your mind. Take your time, as you don’t want to end up with wishy-washy goals you probably won’t even relate to a month later. Think long term and think clear!

Again, don’t worry about how big the goals seem, just get them down and don’t think too much about them – just keep writing!

The next step is to write down on each piece of paper the approximate timescale within which you want to realistically achieve them. Categorize your goals into the following timescale categories:

  • Within 12 months
  • 1-3 years
  • 3 years plus

So now you have six categories of things you would like to accomplish and the timeframe within which you want to achieve  them. I suggest you look at your goals that you would like achieve within the next 12 months and write down two for each specific area in your life. You should now have a list of 12 goals you want to achieve within the next year.

Before making an action plan for achieving your goals,it’s important to write down some convincing reasons for why you feel that achieving your goals is an absolute must.  Remember that in the absence of any compelling reasons to implement your goals, there will be no motivation to achieve them.

In order to create leverage for taking action and achieving your goals, consider the following questions from a life success coach to create some compelling reasons to start taking action today. For each of your top 12 goals, ask yourself these questions:

  • Why do you feel you must achieve this goal?
  • What pleasure will it give you?
  • What will you be able to do?
  • What will you miss out on if you don’t achieve it? Why is it so important to you?

Congratulations, you have now a list of goals and the reasons why you feel you want to achieve them. The following step is to create an action plan and break it down into small steps to achieving your goals.
